Art no: MS-3002 Description
About the tartan:
Black Stewart is predominantly a deep and rich black and red with white, yellow, blue and green. THere is a tradition that anyone who has no tartan of their own, can wear the Black Watch - THe Universal or Government Tartan or the Hunting Stewart Tartan. Good to know and refer to if in any doubt as to which to pick for a Wedding or formal event.
About the clan: The Stewart Black tartan originates from the West Highlands and Sir James Stewart of Pierson, a descendant of the 4th High Stewart of Scotland.
The family records suggest descending from Banquo, Thane of Lochaber, c.990-1043, an well know General used as a character in Shakespeare's MacBeth. (Shakespeare often used Raphael Holinshed's Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland as a source for his plays) The family has an alternative suggested history of being descended from an ancient family, seneschals of Dol in Brittany, who relocated to Scotland as David 1 ascended to the throne of Scotland.
There are many branches of the Stewart family, and the family is linked to Robert the Bruce through the marriage of a Stewart to the daughter of Robert the Bruce.
About our Eight-yard Tartan Kilt: Our men's Eight-yard Tartan Kilt is great value, available in five genuine Scottish tartans and is made from fine quality, heavy and durable poly-viscose.
Ideal worn as part of a full kilt outfit for any formal occasion, like a wedding or a Burns supper, but also a great item dressed-down and worn with more casual clothing for a rugby or football game, Scottish parties or a weekend away.
Each kilt has pure cotton lining for maximum comfort when being worn and has a regular 24'' (61cm) drop. Three real leather straps give the kilt a handy wee bit of give or take within the sizes. So, for example, if you are a size 34"", it can be tightened up from a size 36"" to fit you perfectly and last a little longer.
We stock various eight-yard tartan kilts to fit waist sizes from 30"" (76cm) to 48"" (122cm).
